Writer Shakthika Sathkumara, who was arrested over a short story, has been released on bail by the Kurunegala High Court today.
Sathkumara was charged under the ICCPR Act after a group of Buddhist monks lodged a complaint with the Police over one of his short stories.
The Buddhist monks said Sathkumara's short story was an insult to Buddhism. He was in remand for nearly 4 months.
Sathkumara was released on a cash bail of Rs. 100000 and two sureties of Rs. 100000 each.
Many local and international organizations including Amnesty International condemned Sathkumara's arrest.
