UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa said he was ready to accept the responsibilities of the country.

"I made it clear at the UNP Working Committee meeting. We are now out in the open and we are not going to backtrack on our promises," Premadasa said addressing an event in his electorate, Hambantota.

Premadasa made these remarks after a crucial Working Committee meeting of the UNP where a poposal to form a common alliance with other political parties was discussed.

UNP Minister Harsha de Silva said the party unanimously decided to form a broad coalition. although there is no final decision on the constitution of the alliance.

Premadasa, addressing the same meeting said his focus was not on his political opponents, but on ensuring that the people of the country enjoy a bettter future.
