An airman who was on duty in front of the official residence of the Swiss Ambassador has shot himself with the service weapon earlier today, the Police Media Spokesman said.

Police are conducting further investigations to determine if it was an accident or a suicide.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Army soldier in Anuradhapura also commited suicide by shooting himself with the service weapon.

The incident occurred at the Ranavirusenpura Army camp in Anuradhapura, the Army spokesman said.
