Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the grant aid division of the Korean Embassy, held 2019-2020 Master’s degree scholarship Orientation at a KOICA Sri Lanka Office on 25th of July.
The intended scholarship program is aimed to provide opportunities for government officials to gain knowledge in their field of interest and to disseminate the knowledge within Sri Lanka government. This year, 13 fellows were finally selected as a fellow in the fields of Community Development, Agricultural Production, Water Resources Management, Gender Equality Leadership, Global ICT and etc. They will start their master’s degree course from this August, for about 17 months in prominent universities in Korea.
Detailed guideline was given about KOICA master’s degree program with all procedures, benefits and arrival instructions in Korea. Addressing on occasion, Kang Youn Hwa, Country Director KOICA Sri Lanka office, gave congratulatory note to all the fellows and asserted that to take this opportunity not only to gaining knowledge in the relevant field, but also to understanding the Korean culture and society. Moreover, Mrs. Dharshani Dabare, Deputy Director of ERD UN&TA division, made a speech of encouragement for the fellows, emphasized the importance of the program and full cooperation between Sri Lanka and Korea. All participants gave ear to the orientation with attention as it was informative and helpful for them. Since 1991, KOICA has supported 10.8 million USD for fellowship program in Sri Lanka. Through the program, Sri Lanka government officials will be able to contribute to positive policy level changes in their respective sectors.
