US Ambassador Alaina B. Teplitz met Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa at the latter's residence this morning.

The meeting took place amidst the opposition's vigorous campaign against the Sri Lankan government's proposed military cooperation agreement with the United States.

"We discussed the challenges Sri Lanka face post the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, the current political backdrop and how to further develop the already existing ties between our two nations, " Rajapaksa tweeted after the meeting.
