Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said he would sue Ada Derana and Hiru News demanding Rs. 1000 Million each for maliciously giving wide coverage to wild and unsubstantiated allegations made against him by well-known Buddhist monk Thiniyawala Palitha Thera.

Palitha Thera, an ardent supporter of the United National Party (UNP), launched a scathing attack on the Finance Minister for his controversial remarks in the recent past.

"See you in Court, Dilith, Raynor and Palitha," Samaraweera said, referring to Palitha Thera as a "millionaire businessman".

Samaraweera recently sparked a controversy when he said Sri Lanka was not a "Sinhala-Buddhist country". The fierce argument surrounding Samaraweera's remarks led the Buddhist monks in several districts to issue an order against him, banning the Finance Minister from entering Buddhist temples.

Samaraweera hit back at the Buddhist monks who issued an order against him, referring to them as "Moda Wahansela".
