Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya all measures have been taken to hold the Presidential election without any delay.

"The Presidential election will take place between November 08 and December 10. The Elections Commission will take every necessary step to hold the election during the aforesaid period. There won't be any delay, " Deshapriya added.

"Some speculate that if the Provincial Council election takes place before the Presidential polls, the latter will have to pushed back. There is no such thing. Even if the PC election comes ahead of the Presidential election, it will not result in any delay, " Deshapriya added.

However, it is speculated that President Sirisena is planning to seek the opinion of the Supreme Court on whether he can hold office until May 2020.
