Testifying before the Parliamentary Select Committee probing Easter Sunday attacks, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said it was President Maithripala Sirisena who invited him to attend the National Security Council meeting.

Jayasekera made the relation when members of the PSC asked as to who invited opposition MPs to attend the National Security Council meeting.

In response, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said the President did not have power to invite people to the National Security Council meeting according to his own whims and fancies.

"Things that are discussed at the National Security Council meeting must only be privy to the government. The Opposition MPs have no no business at the Security Council meeting," Fonseka added.

However, Jayasekera said the President decided to invite opposition MPs due to his mistrust with the government.

"Then the President should have convened a separate meeting with his trustworthy people. The National Security Council meeting is only for the government , ' Fonseka hit back.
