Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said he would retire from active politics after the next Parliamentary election.

"Some say that I will retire before the next election. That will not happen. However, I will retire before the Parliamentary election in 2025," Samaraweera said, addressing a function in Matara.

The function was also attended by Minister Sajith Premadasa who was recently endorsed by Samaraweera as the Presidential candidate of the party for the next election.

Samaraweera thanked Premadasa for outlining his economic vision for the country.

The Finance Minister, addressing the event, said his party would ensure that the same vision would be implemented in the country in the next five years.
