UNP MP Bandula Lal Bandarigoda has submitted a private members motion to the parliament against the resumption of the executions in Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe recently said his party was against the President's decision to re-impose death penalty.
The Prime Minister also added that the attempt would be defeated in Parliament.Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has also echoed the same sentiments and voiced his concerns about the move.
Over 10 Fundamental Rights petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the President's action.
It is against this backdrop that the UNP MP has presented the private member bill to the House against the President's decision.
