Prominent political voices of the 'next generation' of Sri Lankan politics will join a public political dialogue on June 05 at 7 pm at IdeaHell, Colombo 03.
Speakers include representatives from the three main political camps including the UNP, the SLPP and the JVP. The event is open to the public and will also be live-streamed via Asian Mirror.
The discussion will centre on the question: 'Presidential Election 2019: the 19th Amendment, National Security and Democracy,' and the speakers lined up are Spokesman for Gotabaya Rajapaksa and member of Colombo Municipal Council (SLPP) Milinda Rajapaksha, political analyst and activist Rasika Jayakody, social entrepreneur Eranda Ginige, UNP Organiser for Mihintale, Lawyer, Sanjeewa Seneviratne, JVP -affiliated Socialist Youth Association National Organizer Eranga Gunasekera and SLPP Media Spokesman Sanjeewa Edirimanne.
The event is organized by #NextGenSL, a cross-party group to promote open political debates and dialogues in Sri Lanka — a concept that can enrich the country's political sphere and groom the next generation politicians. The first public event hosted by #NextGenSL was during the constitutional crisis of 2018 and focusing on the issue of the premature dissolution of Parliament. The event was widely followed online and a large number of political enthusiasts representing both camps gathered at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre to witness Sri Lanka's first-ever open political debate last December.
