Journalist Malinda Seneviratne has filed a Writ application in the Court of Appeal against the implementation of the death penalty.

In his petition, he has said the implementation of death penalty was a violation of human rights.

The journalist, in his petition, refers to President Maithripala Sirisena's statamemt that the latter has already signed a document sanctioning the death penalty on four prisoners.

The petitioner, therefore, has sought an order from the Court of Appeal on the Prisons Commissioner General and the Superintendent of the Wlelikada Order against the implementation of the President's order.
