Former President and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa said a Presidential candidate who could secure victory would be fielded at the next election.

Speaking to the media in Kandy, Rajapaksa said their presidential candidate would be a person who loves the country.

However, the Opposition Leader also added that the selection process was still underway.

Multiple media reports have indicated that the Opposition Leader would declare the name of the SLPP Presidential candidate at the party's national convention on August 11.
