Former Easter Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah today gave a statement to the Presidential Comission probing bribery and corruption between 2015 and 2018.
Hizbullah was summoned before the commission as a complaint had been lodged against the corruption that that taken place during the construction of the institution referred to as the Sharia University in Batticaloa.
Thiiyawala Palitha Thera, a prominent Buddhist monk, lodged the complaint against the so-called university.
It is reported that the former Easter Province Governor is a Co-Chairman in the administrative body of the institution. Informed sources said the former Governor was asked to give a statement as part of the preliminary inquiries into the complaint.
Hizbullah was summoned to give a statement a day after he testified before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing Easter Sunday attacks.
