The Parliamentary Select Committee probing Easter Sunday attacks will continue its sessions despite President Maithripala Sirisena's subversive action against the committee, informed political sources said.
President Maithrulipala Sirisena has refused to convene the weekly Cabinet meeting until the sessions of the Parliamentary Select Committee are suspended.
The committee members had met yesterday that arrived at a decision to continue the proceedings. Although some members had opined that the committee must seek a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena, the majority of members had flatly turned down the proposal.
Former IGP N.K. Illangakone, now a Special Advisor to the Ministry of Defence, is scheduled to testify before the PSC too.
Informed sources said former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen too would be summoned before the PSC. Bathiudeen is currently facing a No-Confidence motion in Parliament due to his alleged links with extremist militants in the country.
