Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will discuss US-Sri Lanka cooperation CounterTerrorism, Indo-Pacific and Freedom of Navigation in the Indian Ocean during the Secretary of State's visit to Colombo.
The US State Department announced that Pompeo will visit Sri lanka as part of his Asian tour later this month.
Pompeo spoke to Wickremesinghe over the phone in the immediate aftermath of the Easter Sundauy attacks which claimed the lives of over 250 people.
A source close to the Prime Minister said it was during this telephone conversation that Pompeo first expressed his desire to visit Sri Lanka.
The visit takes place amidst heightened debate in Colombo over the proposed defence cooperation agreement between Sri Lanka and the United States.
