The no-confidence motion against ACMC leader Rishad Bathiudeen will be taken up in the House after the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Bathiudeen concludes its sittings, informed government sources said.
They added that the PSC would conclude its work in three weeks and present a comprehensive report to Parliament.
The no-confidence motion against Batthiudeen has already been presented to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya with signatures of 66 MPs.
United National Front (UNF) Parliamentary group decided to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to probe allegations against ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen.
The UNF group met in Parliament yesterday to discuss the current political situation including the no-confidence motions presented by the Joint Opposition and the JVP. The meeting was attended all political parties representing the UNF coalition.
"Bathiudeen has indicated that he is ready to face any investigation over the allegations levelled against him. That is why we decided to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee that will investigate the allegations against him, " a UNP Parliamentarian said.
He added that the Parliamentary Select Committee would decide whether Bathiudeen had any involvement with the extremist militant groups in the Eastern province.
