Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara said certain political elements were attempting to destabilize the country's education by fear mongering.
Addressing a press conference at Temple Trees earlier today, Maddumabandara, a former Law and Order Minister, said security has been stabilized in the country and parents have no reason to worry about sending their children to schools.
"Reopening schools was not a political decision. The decision was made after consulting the heads of security forces and analyzing the security situation in the country, " he added.
The Minister stated that some political elements with petty agendas are discouraging parents from sending their children to schools.
"Our security forces have done a commendable job and they have dismantled the militant organizations. The large majority of militants are custody while other have died in suicide explosions. The country can return to normalcy, " Maddumabandara added.
