President Says He Will Not Reverse Decision On Death Penalty Despite Objections Raised By Some Parties

President Maithripala Sirisena said the government would not reverse its decision to impose death penalty on drug dealers.

Addressing a public gathering in Polonnaruwa, the President said there was no truth in newspaper reports claiming the government would reverse the decision.

The President said he would not turn back on the decision under any circumstances despite objections raised by some parties.

Sirisena also said he would appoint a high-profile committee next week to make recommendations on proceeding with the decision.
