The Prisons Department will soon call for applications for the post of hangman, a Department spokesman sad. 

Currently the Welikada prison - the main prison in Colombo - has infrastructure to execute those sentenced to death. 

The hangmen will be stationed at the Welikada Prison where they will perform their duties. 

Over 300 people sentenced to death over various crimes are currently in prison. Some of them have been accused of running drug networks from their prison cells. 

The Prisons Department is expected to present a special report to President Maithripala Sirisena on prisoners sentenced to death.
