SLAF Earns $130 Million Through Peacekeeping Missions

November 07, 2024

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has generated approximately $130 million for the national Treasury through its involvement in United Nations peacekeeping missions, particularly in conflict zones such as the Central African Republic (CAR) since 2014.

A recent Passing Out Parade for the No. 10 Contingent of the SLAF Aviation Unit took place at Base Katunayake, marking the unit's readiness for deployment to the CAR under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission (MINUSCA). The parade was led by Group Captain Uditha De Silva, and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, was on hand to take the salute.

In his address, Air Marshal Rajapaksa praised the professionalism and dedication of SLAF personnel stationed in CAR, noting that the United Nations Headquarters had commended the Sri Lankan contingents for their bravery and commitment to peacekeeping. This achievement underscores both the trust placed in Sri Lanka's military forces by the international community and the economic benefits the country gains through these peacekeeping operations. Another contingent of SLAF officers and airmen is set to depart for CAR in early December.
