Police Sergeant Chandra Jayalal Abeywickrama, who was strangled to death by a Buddhist monk, has been posthumously promoted to the rank of Sub Inspector. 

The promotion has been given following a directive from IGP Pujith Jayasundara. 

The officer has been promoted as he died while on duty. 

The Buddhist monk had killed the Police officer when the latter visitor the Gal kanda Viharaya, in Ratnapura, with an warrant.
