Director General of National Blood Bank Dr. Rukshan Bellana has been removed from the post with immediate effect, Asian Mirror learns. 

The decision has been made following a trade union action launched by workers of the blood bank demanding stern action against the Director General. 

The Director General came under fire from employees over allegations of professional and financial misconduct. 

The Government Medical Officers Associations too demanded action against the Director General of the national blood bank.

Bellana is known to be a close associate of Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
