The United National Party has appointed a three member committee to probe into the recent controversial statement made by former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran. 

Ministers Thalatha Atukorale, Akila Viraj KAriyawasam and Kabir Hashim serve as members of the committee. 

The committee will make its recommendations to the Working Committee of the UNP. 

Meanwhile, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has also directed Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya to probe into the statement made by the former State Minister. 

Maheswaran recently stated at a public event that the LTTE should be revived to ensure the well-being of Tamils in the North.
