Veteran actor and film director Roy de Silva passed away at the age of 80. 

Having entered the Sinhala cinema as an actor in the mid 60s, he appeared in many successful commercial films in the late 60s and 70s. 

He is also considered one of the most commercially successful film directors in the Sri Lankan film industry. Rae Daniel Dawal Migel series, Cheriyo series, Clean Out, and Sir Last Chance were his most successful commercial films. 

Heis survived by his wife film actress Sumana Amarasinghe.
