The Attorney General's Department has informed court that former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga is currently being detained at a prison in Dubai.
Weeratunga, a suspect facing a red warrant from Interpol, is a nephew of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He is wanted by the law enforcement authorities in Sri Lanka over the MIG investigation.
Meanwhile, a lawyer appearing on behalf of Weeratunga today said the latter was willing to arrive in Sri Lanka and appear before court.
The Sri Lankan Attorney General's Department and the Police held a number of discussions with authorities in Dubai to ensure the extradition of Weeratunga.
