Responding to the recent article published in New York times on the Chinese investments in Sri Lanka under the Rajapaksa presidency, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said the 'Wes' was fearing the growing global influence of China.
"[There are] Many inaccuracies in this article," he tweeted, responding to the article which said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's election campaign in January, 2015, was financed by Chinese companies.
"Acknowledging the Port is near 1 of the world’s busiest shipping lanes shows why it’s still a major focus for the West, fearing China’s growing global influence," he added.
The Parliamentarian also said, "Sri Lanka's assets shouldn’t be used as geopolitical pawns in this power struggle."
