Former Finance Minister Ravi karunanayake, in a hard-hitting statement, said some ghosts in the Central Bank are ruining the Sri Lankan economy. 

Speaking to media in Colombo, Karunanayake said he did not have a issue over a ministerial position, but had serious concerns over the manner in which the country's economy is run. 

"These elements must be severely dealt with. I've been saying this to the President and the Prime Minister," the former Finance Minister added. 

He said the country's economy should not be run according to the whims and fancies of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. 

"We need to have a system of our own. That's the best way to handle these problems," he said, adding that continuous devaluation of the Sri Lankan rupee would lead to serious consequences.
