A foreign contestant of adventure race ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ is missing after falling in the Maheweli River in Mahiyanganaya.
A statement by the organisers of the event said:
'Rumble in the Jungle – the adventure themed off-road bicycle race being held currently in Sri Lanka, was suspended today in order to locate a missing contestant.
One rider, a foreign participant whose team was leading the race, is currently unaccounted for.
Search and Rescue teams aided by the Sri Lankan Police are working round the clock to locate the missing rider.'
The organisers said further updates would be released to the public as they are available.
The 2018 iteration of ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ is a challenging mountain bike race across four districts of the central highlands between June 9th to 15th June and has had drawn hundreds of international and local competitors.
