Parliamentary Committee on High Posts has received a recommendation from President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka as the Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Russia.

Jayatilleka was previously Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to Geneva. He held his last diplomatic posting under the previous administration. 

Jayatilleka, a staunch supporter of former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, has been approached to the position by President Maithripala Sirisena. 

After being approached for the position, he gave an interview to a Sinhala newspaper criticizing the conduct of the former Defence Secretary and his organization 'Viyath Maga'
