The UNP Councillors representing the Maharagama Urban Council boycotted the session in protest of the appointments of Kanthi Kodikara and five other Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna members. 

As a result, a tense situation occured at the Council session, a short while ago. 

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna members took oaths before former President Mahinda Rajapaksa replacing the members of Independent Group 02 who reigned from their positions. 

The Independent Group 02 contested the Local Government elections under the symbol Motor Cycle and secured the power of the council.
