Sri Lankan cricketing legend Arjuna Ranatunga has kicked up a storm by demanding a probe into Sri Lanka's defeat by India in the final of the 2011 World Cup.

In a video uploaded on his Facebook page, Ranatunga said that he was shocked by the manner of the defeat.

After winning the toss and scoring 274, Sri Lanka were in a commanding position at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai when India lost Sachin Tendulkar with the score at 31. But India ultimately emerged as the winner thanks to half-centuries by MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir.

The veteran cricketer-turned-politician who was in India at that time said: "When we lost, I was distressed and I had a doubt."

Ranatunga is widely considered one of the greatest captains of all time. His most memorable achievement was leading a team of relative unknowns to World Cup glory in 1996.

The statements come at a time when the Sri Lankan players and the administration are locking heads regarding several matters including payments and controversies including corruption.
