According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, 70,000 police officers will be deployed across Sri Lanka for election security
From today, around 64,000 officers will be stationed at polling stations across the country to ensure safety during the election period. A total of 13,383 polling stations have been established for the 13,314 constituencies. In addition to routine duties, officers will remain on duty the day after the election, with extended coverage if necessary.
The deployment includes nearly 3,200 Special Task Force (STF) personnel, as well as 12,227 individuals directly involved in election-related duties.
In support of the police, approximately 11,000 army personnel will secure "hotspots" and assist in areas where police forces are focused on election security. Army units are on standby for any additional support, if needed.
DIG Thalduwa urged the public to cooperate with authorities to ensure the election is free, fair, and peaceful.
