The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) would conduct a review of the first two years of the National Unity Government before making a decision on the extension of its agreement with the UNP, a senior Cabinet minister representing the SLFP said.
He added that the final decision on their agreement with the UNP would be at the party Central Committee.
The two year MOU between the UNP and the SLFP - the two main parties in the national unity government - will elapse in September.
Although both parties have started negotiations to enter into new agreement in October, the grey areas are yet to be cleared.
"The SLFP ministers representing the government were sometimes given step-motherly treatment. This trend should stop if we are to continue in the government. We will also seek an expansion of powers for the SLFP ministers representing the Cabinet," he added.
The Minister further stressed that the SLFP's continued support to the national unity government would not be a 'blank cheque' for the UNP.
