Angelo Mathews To Step Down From Captaincy: Tharanga To Be New Captain?

Sri Lankan cricket captain Angelo Mathews is likely to step down from captaincy in all three formats of the game, SLC sources said.

His decision comes in the wake of Sri Lanka's humiliating defeat to Zimbabwe at the recently held ODI series.

Matthew's strategies and decision making as a captain came under heavy criticism from many quarters after the Champions Trophy and the tournament against Zimbabwe.

SLC sources also added that Mathews, a batting all-rounder, would continue in the team as a player despite his decision to step down from captaincy.

They said Sri Lanka's current vice captain Upul Tharanga will lead the team during the ODI and Test series against India.
