Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) Chairman Professor Carlo Fonseka, at a meeting with stalwarts of the Government Medical Officers (GMOA), requested the GMOA to refrain from launching trade union action on his behalf, as he is not seeking an extension to his term.
Professor Carlo Fonseka’s five-and-a-half year term at the SLMC came to an end on June 30 and amid government moves to appoint Professor Colvin Gunaratne in his stead the GMOA warned trade union action if Fonseka’s term was not extended.
While promising continued support to the GMOA, Professor Carlo Fonseka asked during his meeting with the leaders of the GMOA that they refrain from protesting on behalf of him as he was not seeking an extension to his term.
