The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to postpone their strike scheduled for tomorrow (July 5) by a week.
The announcement comes on the heels of Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith’s plea to postpone the scheduled strike action in the interest of the patients affected by dengue in the country.
Over 70,000 persons have been affected by the viral fever in the first six months of the year and over 200 deaths have been recorded as a result of the fever that has spikes during the months of May and June, as per the Epidemiological Unit of the Health Ministry.
The GMOA had called for an islandwide, indefinite strike beginning tomorrow, against the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) that they insist must be abolished.
