Additional Solicitor General Kapila Waidyaratne has been appointed the new Defence Ministry Secretary. 

He replaces Karunasena Hettiarachchi, who has been appointed the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany. 

Meanwhile, former Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has been appointed the new Governor of the Eastern Province. 

The post was previously held by Austin Fernando, who became the Secretary to the President.

Bogollagama is also a stalwart of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
