Members of Engineer Services of Army constructed two new temporary wards in Negombo General Hospital for the use of Dengue patients after hospital authorities brought the lack of adequate warding facilities to the notice of President Maithripala Sirisena during his recent visit to the hospital.
Army Commander General Crisanthe De Silva responding quickly to the SOS need, instructed Corps of Engineer Services, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of the Army to immediately commence the construction and equip the two new wards with necessary medical accessories, manpower and all other paraphernalia as soon as possible.
Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps will provide 25 Army personnel to provide medical assistance while the Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers will equip both wards with saline stands and other medical accessories as per the requirements of the Negombo Hospital medical authorities, Army media sources said.
As a new addition to the project the Army will put up a separate laboratory for conduct of blood tests and other laboratory procedures.
