Health authorities have taken measures to enhance facilities to treat dengue patients at the Negombo hospital, under directives by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The President visited the Negombo District Hospital this week to inspect its current condition.
As a large number of Dengue cases were reported from the area, the President directed the officials to take swift action to expand facilities to treat dengue patients.
The President's orders were implemented by health authorities within 48 hours and as a result, the Sri Lanka Army was tasked to construct a temporary ward complex with all the facilities.
In addition, renovation work of the Special Treatment Unit of the dengue patients is also underway.
As a solution for the staff shortage at the hospital, the President directed to get the assistance of the doctors and nurses attached to the Tri-forces. In addition to them, services of specialist doctors have also been provided.
Steps have been taken to expand the hospital's sanitary facilities as well.
