Kirloskar Brothers Limited, one of the pioneering water pumps manufacturing company of India, handed over two state of the art portable heavy duty dewatering pumps to Minister of National Disaster Anura Priyadarshana Yapa at the Ministry of Disaster Management to be used to remove flood water.
The event was attended by Arindam Bagchi, Deputy High Commissioner of India, Mr. Abhijit Deshpande, representative of Kirloskar Brothers and S S Miyanawala Secretary of Ministry of Disaster Management.
This donation is part of continued assistance by Indian companies in Sri Lanka following the recent floods in the country. It will help strengthen disaster preparedness in Sri Lanka.
The cost of the two pumps is around SLR 7 million and the pump has a water removal capacity of 50 litre /second. During an emergency, these pumps can be swiftly towed to a site for immediate use. These self-contained pumps don’t require any other external support such as electricity or mounting equipment.
