President Will Meet With Uma Oya Protestors: Minister Says Public Agitation ‘Fair’

President Maithripala Sirisena will meet with Uma Oya protestors on Friday, Digital Infrastructure Development Minister Harin told a news conference today, adding that public agitation was ‘fair’, given the circumstances.

Accordingly, ten protestors representing the Uma Oya protestors will meet the President who has decided to intervene personally in the matter, after protestors took to the streets to protest the multipurpose project that has caused damage to houses.

Uma Oya protestors say 7, 037 houses have been damaged as a result of the multipurpose project that includes a 26 metre long pipeline from which residents allege over 8 million liters of water is leaking on a daily basis.
