President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that he will never assent the acts of tarnishing the image of the Maha Sangha leveling baseless allegations through the social media.
He expressed his great regret in this regard and said he considered this as a huge deterioration of the society.
The modern technology should be utilized for the betterment of the society, but not to unrest the country or to destroy the society, the President said.
He made these remarks addressing the Amarapura Nikaya’s Upasampada Ceremony held at the Kaluthara Bodhi, yesterday (25).
President Sirisena further said that the gradually worsening society with the use of modern technology can heal only through the use of Buddhist Philosophy, and said that many solutions incorporated in the Buddhist Philosophy for many social issues.
The Maha Sangha including the religious leaders should take the lead in building a peaceful society where all the communities could live in harmony, he added.

The President presented title deed of 98 perches land near the Parliament, to Most Ven. Agga Maha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Nayaka Thera, for the use of Amarapura Maha Nikaya.
The Maha Sangha including the Most Ven. Agga Maha Panditha Kotugoda Dhammawasa Nayaka Thera, Most Venerable Dodampahala Chandrasiri Thera, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Minister Wijedasa Rajapakase, State Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera and many devotees participated on this occasion.
