Former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayewardeba has applied for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Indian media confirmed this morning that the former Sri Lankan batsman was among the overseas candidates who had applied for the post.
Former Sri Lankan coach Tom Moody is also among Jayawardena’s contenders for the much-coveted position, Indian media also added.
Jayawardena was the head coach of the Mumbai Indians team which emerged champions at the IPL, this year.
Therefore, Indian media had indicated that Jayawardena, who retired from international cricket two years back, was a front-runner for the position.
India is currently looking for a head coach for its cricket team as former Indian spinner Anil Kumble vacated his position after what seemed to be a dispute with Indian captain Virat kohli.
