Deputy Inspector of Police (DIG) Priyantha Jayakody has resigned from his position as Police Spokesman, citing medical reasons.

‘Due to the prevailing medical condition I have decided to step down from the post of "Police Media spokesman",’ the DIG said in a Facebook post.

‘I take this opportunity to convey my sincere gratitude towards all media colleagues and all my FB friends for the untainted support and courage tender towards me to fulfill my assignment during this period.’

SP Ruwan Gunasekera has been appointed in his position.
