The Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) the first modern political party in Sri Lanka and the first party to have an indigenous name rather than an English one and the first Marxist party in Sri Lanka. 

81st anniversary of Lanka Sama Samaja Party marked at the New Town Hall of Colombo on Friday. The keynote address of the event was delivered by Professor Liyanage Amarakeerthi of Sinhala Department of University of Peradeniya.

While sending a congratulatory message President Maithripala Sirisena said that Lanka Sama Samaja Party has wielded an enormous impact on the Sri Lanka's political history.
