Safety walls will be developed to prevent the overflow of Kelani River. The proposed wall will be constructed along the low lying areas of the river basin. The main objective of this project is to protect the general public of Colombo urban area and Kelaniya during the rainy days. 

Minister Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza stated a special cabinet paper submitted in this regard has been approved during the last meeting. 1,000 million rupees will be spent on this project.
