The work on the Volkswagen factory will begin in January next year, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

He made this revelation yesterday at a meeting in Kurunegala.

Wickremesinghe said that the factory, along with another factory, will be constructed as the symbols of the economic development of the country.

However, Education Mnister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had said in October that the work on the factory will begin in December.

He made this remark at the laying of the foundation stone for the Medical College at Kuliyapitiya.
