The Cinnamon Garden Police informed Colombo Magistrate Courts today that the prosecution would file charges against National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa and six other party members.
The charges are that they allegedly provided leadership to a protest that blocked the main roads at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, causing disturbance to the people and the normal flow of traffic. They are also accused of using loudspeakers without prior permission.
On February 6 this year, the NFF staged a protest march against the visit of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein.
NFF leader and Colombo District MP Wimal Weerawansa, Jayantha Samaraweera, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Piyasiri Wijenayake, Roger Seneviratne, Mohammed Muzammil and Don Lusian have been released on bail over the incident.
