Sri Lanka has been admitted to the Foundation Council, the Governing Body of the Geneva Center for SecPresident Maithripala Sirisena during a discussion with the Trade Union representatives of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment assured to consider the demands of the Trade Unions irrespective of the party differences.
Meeting was held at the Mahaweli Authority, yesterday (21st Nov.).It had been called by the President himself where it was first time that the President called a meeting with TU representatives.
The representative apprised President regarding the issues related to promotions and salaries.
President Sirisena expressed his appreciation over their discussion approach to solve their issues as a section of the society that provides a significant contribution for the development of the country. He also said that he would appoint six sub-committees in the future to provide solutions for their issues.
A main Committee comprising an Additional Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat, an Additional Secretary from Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment and an Additional Secretary from the Ministry of National Unity and Reconciliation, will be appointed to oversee those six sub-committees.
“To get a quality service from the workers, job satisfaction as well as a conducive environment to work happily, should be created”, the President pointed out. He stated that he would take action to fulfill every requirement which can be fulfilled, irrespective of any divisions of the parties within the next few months.
He added that no any former government has taken actions to repair the building of the Ministry. He said he would give quick solutions.
Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment Anuradha Senevirathne, Secretary to the Ministry Udaya R. Senevirathne and the Director General of the Mahaweli Authority Anura Dissanayake also participated in this occasion.
The President then has a meeting with the board of the officers of Mahaweli Authority. The discussion was based on the future plans and the progress of the authority.
